Jean Shepherd's memoir of growing up in the Midwest in the 1940s follows 9-year-old Ralphie Parker in his quest to get a genuine Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas. Ralphie pleads his case before his mother, his teacher and even Santa Claus himself, at Goldblatt's Department Store. The consistent response: "you'll shoot your eye out". All the elements from the beloved motion picture are here, including the family's temperamental furnace; Scut Farkas, the school bully; the boys' triple-dog-dare; the Little Orphan Annie decoder pin; the 'major award' and more.
Allan Felix has this thing about Humphrey Bogart. If only he had some of Bogart's technique... Bookish and insecure with women, Allan's hero, Bogey comes to the rescue, with a fantastic bevy of beauties played out in hilarious fantasy sequences. Fixed up by friends with gorgeous women, he's so awkward that even Bogey's patience is tried. Allan mostly resembles a disheveled, friendly dog and this is what ultimately charms his best friend's wife.
In 1959, the dynamic duo of Rodgers & Hammerstein collaborated for the last time and created perhaps the world's most beloved musical, The Sound of Music. A sweeping, romantic true story, it contains some of the theater's most well-known songs like, "My Favorite Things", "Climb Ev'ry Mountain", "Edelweiss" and "Sixteen Going On Seventeen". Filled with memories and music that has spanned generations, the Sound of Music is a delight for all ages, and an unforgettable theatrical experience.
